Young up and coming winemaker Juan Antonio Ponce is a passionate advocate of the native grape variety, Bobal and learnt many of his skills form his father. He has also studied and travelled extensively in France and, like peers such as Daniel Jimenez Landi, he has been seduced by the theories of biodynamics. Clos Lojen is a fresh example of Bobal grown in this way.

According to Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Clos Lojen is 100% Bobal fermented with whole clusters and aged in tank. Fruity aromas of blueberry, blackberry, and plum lead to a firm, tasty, well-balanced wine that can be enjoyed over the next 6 years." (06/11)Produced from Bobal, the local specialty of the Manchuela D.O., this wine is produced biodynamically from 33-55 year old vines. Delicious, juicy dark berry fruit shows all the hallmarks and deliciously gulpable qualities of a whole cluster, carbonically macerated wine, with the intensity and structure befitting a wine from this Mediterranean region. Please be sure to give this wine some air (maybe a quick 20-30 minute decant) for maximum enjoyment.

"This was one of the most intriguing wines I had tasted in a while, and I strongly recommend you try it. Made from 100 per cent Bobal, it has a subtle ripe nose, and beguiling svelte sweet/sour soft fruit, cherry pie with a savoury edge, that gently fills the palate. Excellent length for a wine at this price."
