Although El Coto is a relatively young Bodega, it is already one of the Rioja Qualified Designation of Origin (D.O.Ca) leaders. In the domestic market, no sales promotions or publicity campaigns have been necessary for El Coto to silently become the preferred Rioja Crianza of the Spanish, whilst, in the international market, El Coto is present at the best tables and wine lists in some 50 countries.
VINTAGE 2001:
The weather conditions between November 2000 and August 2001 were good for the progress of the vegetative cycle. There were high rainfall figures between November and April, followed by a dry spring and stormy summer. Winter temperatures were mild, the spring was hot and in summer, around average for the season. In conclusion, an exceptional vintage, classified as excellent and blessed with perfect weather and well above average analytical results, providing the basis for fine quality wines and great ageing potential.
VARIETY:
100% Tempranillo from their own vineyards in Cenicero (Rioja Alta).
VINIFICATION:
In stainless steel vats for 21-30 days, with just the right maceration necessary to get the balance between fruit and extract.
AGEING:
The wine has been aged in American- and French-oak casks for a minimum of 24 months, followed by a minimum (which they always exceed) of 36 months rounding off in the bottle.
TASTING NOTES:
Brilliant ruby-red colour with tinges of brick red. Mature and elegant, its rich aromatic complexity is changing and subtle, revealing itself as the wine breathes. Toasted oak nuances and coconut give way to tertiary aromas (leather, damp earth), and red berries and dried raisins. Silky, rounded tannins and a complex, lingering aftertaste.
