16 Stops is a new wine project made with the association of Liberty wines and Tim James of Willunga 100 wines. Given the continued strength of the Australian dollar, it has been quite difficult to find entry level Australian wine, whilst still promoting the regionality of the wines of Australia. 16 Stops wines are a result of an investment in a premium region and, given the quality of the fruit from which they're made, the 16 Stops wines offer tremendous value for money.
The wines are made with fruit from McLaren Vale and the Adelaide Hills. They are made alongside the Willunga 100 wines in McLaren Vale, and benefit from the same input from Tim James.
The Shiraz is deep coloured and bursting with the sort of ripe yet freshly aromatic fruit that McLaren Vale can yield if the grapes are picked on time. It has lovely richness on the palate, good structure and a seriousness and depth that belies its modest price.
This deep coloured Shiraz is youthful and vibrant, with a lovely dark fruit and spiced plum character on the nose. The oak supports rather than masks the fruit, which is bright and lively yet plush and fleshy on the palate. The tannins are ripe and silky, giving the wine a texture that is unusual at this price.
